Chinese people began weaving carpets up to a millennia agoa in northern China, with the local abundance of wool and contacts with Muslims and nomads, the enterprise flourished. Three distinct styles occur including Ninxia, Peking & Art Deco.

Ninxia rugs are coarsley woven, moderate in size and often feature hues of blue, brown or balck motifs on a yellow, camel, tan or red field witha cneter medallion flanked by four other medallions or elements. Motifs include stylized flowers, foliate dragons & lattice patters derived from Buddhism and Taoism.
